Student Art Contest

The Springfield Old Capital Art FairThe winning artwork will be featured on the official Springfield Old Capitol Art Fair (SOCAF) poster and may be used on billboards throughout Springfield.

  • 3rd PLACE: Quaye Meadow, Springfield High School
  • HONORABLE MENTION 12th GRADE: Tessa Bennett, Southeast High School
  • HONORABLE MENTION 9-11 GRADE: Gloria Su, Glenwood High School
  • HONORABLE MENTION 6-8 GRADE: Kaila Hearn, Glenwood Middle School

WHO MAY ENTER:

Any student, grades 6-12, who is currently enrolled in any school in Sangamon County.

WHAT MAY BE ENTERED:

Please submit any creative, original work of art (any size, medium or subject matter) created within the past year. If it is a 2-D piece, please submit one digital image of your artwork. If the piece is 3-D, please submit 3-4 digital images. There is no criteria for subject matter and please do not assume we are looking for anything specific; we want what you to create what you love!

LIMIT ONE ENTRY PER STUDENT.


WHEN AND WHERE TO ENTER:

All entries must be submitted digitally to to the Community Education Committee by 5:00 pm on February 22, 2018 at socafstudentcontest@gmail.com. Each student must complete the entry form and submit their photo(s) to secure it to their entry.


EXHIBITION & PRIZES:

The first place winning student will be awarded a check for $250, have their piece framed and will be given a framed art fair poster featuring their artwork. Second place will be awarded a $200 check and third place will be awarded a $150 check. One honorable mention award will be given to each of the three grade categories (6-8, 9-11, and 12) with each receiving a $100 check. In addition, the art instructor of the first place winning artist will receive a $300 grant for the purchase of art materials for classroom use. All of the above award winners will receive recognition in the SOCAF Illinois Times insert in May 2018 and will be listed on the SOCAF website. All winning artwork will be exhibited during the art fair, May 19 & 20, unless pieces are needed for another contest or exhibition. Winning students must receive their checks during the Student Awards Ceremony on Saturday, May 19 at 10:00 am in front of the Old State Capitol. Please drop off winning artwork for exhibition at either 1) The Hoogland Center of the Arts on Friday, May 18 between 3:00-4:00 pm or 2) the Old State Capitol on Saturday, May 19 between 9:00-9:30 am. Artwork must be picked p after the art fair at the Old State Capitol on Sunday May 20, 2018 between 3:00-4:00 pm. SOCAF is not responsible for any unclaimed artwork.
